Traditional air conditioning systems use low-temperature cold source and high-temperature heat source to handle the total load, which results in the low energy efficiency of air conditioning system. To fully utilize natural energy and significantly enhance the energy efficiency of air conditioning systems, this paper proposes an analysis method for theoretical energy consumption of air conditioning systems. Based on load grade theory, the theoretical energy consumption of air treatment under single operating condition and seasonal theoretical energy consumption are defined. Taking an outdoor air system in Beijing as an example, the theoretical energy consumption of outdoor air conditioning system is analysed. The results show that the theoretical energy efficiency of summer outdoor air conditioning system in Beijing can reach 8.475 by grading outdoor air load and fully utilizing natural energy.
